Masking

Masking is a critical process that protects specific areas of parts from finishing treatments to maintain their functional integrity. For example, it preserves the shape of fastener threads or safeguards electrical contacts from coating or plating.

By selectively masking areas, different finishing processes can be applied to various sections of a part—such as masking solderable gold plating on an aluminum base to allow chromating elsewhere.

Additionally, masking enables designs, logos, and critical features to remain untouched during processing, ensuring both functionality and aesthetics are preserved throughout the production cycle.

Custom Masking

Masking prevents certain areas of parts from being processed to maintain its overall function, like keeping threads of fasterners evenly shaped or preserve specific electrical contacts. Masking allows for selective finishing with certain areas being operated through different processes (e.g. masking solderable gold on an aluminum base to be chromated). Lastly, this allows for certain designs and logos to remain untouched through the process lines.
